Congratulations to William Shatner – the oldest person to enter space – traveling Wednesday on a Blue Origin rocket (at a top velocity of 2,235 MPH – or 0.00003481950053 the maximum warp speed of the USS Enterprise).
His pre-trip and post-trip interviews with Anderson Cooper (fabulous) and his return comments with Jeff Bezos – remind us all that stewardship of our planet is at a beyond CRITICAL point. The opportunities offered by space for inspiration, scientific advancement, and new clean industrial technologies (Bezos donating 19M to independent developers for space innovation) are not always recognized.
Mr. Shatner responded to Prince William’s comments that funds could better spent on earth: “He is a lovely, gentle, and well-educated man who has missed the point.”
I must agree with Mr. Shatner – resources spent on elements of our culture that elevate a “greater good”, that point “beyond themselves” to a “greater, collective, aspirational identity” are well spent – on space AND on Royal Jubilees, YRH!
