“To Trains Missed – and Ships that Never Sailed…”

An Ode to Organized Religion

I met you when I had a dream…

So very long ago, it seems.

You took the best from me.

And showed me how to get along.

You once were right, then got it wrong.

I was down and out, you let me in.

At times, you were my only friend.

You taught me how to pray.

I learned to sing your songs

And how to walk your way.

What now, ECUSA?

* * *

Now you won’t miss me when I’m gone,

You’re custom-made for moving on.

You took all I had to give.

From time to time I’ll pass you by –

Your people and places still make me cry.

Years from now you’ll be on my mind.

I’ll try to keep your memory kind.

It hurts so much when I look back.

Not hard to imagine that –

So many lost along their way.

Where now, ECUSA?

* * *

You built me up, you cast me free,

You tore down all that I could be,

And can’t have what’s left of me –

But I wish you well.

So you be you and I’ll be me.

And we’ll both be blessed,

God save the CPF!

* * *

And now I’ll be going – going – gone.

We knew it would happen all along.

It’s what you wanted in the end.

So long, at last, my dear friend.

Goodbye, Farewell and Amen
